Why You Wake Up When You Do
Are you waking up too early or in the middle of the night? Does it frequently happen around the same time? Peaceful Sleep flower essence is great stuff if I do say so myself, but it is for insomnia due to stress and busy minds. It's super helpful but may not always get to the root of the problem. I'll spare you the caffeine and low blood sugar lectures. Let's look at some of the not so obvious reasons you might not be sleeping well.
Your Body Runs Like Clockwork
What we're looking for in this scenario is patterns to your wake up times. When we sleep, we heal and restore, both from incidental daily stressors as well as some complex illnesses. Our body has it's own cycle where restorative energy focuses from one area to another, around the clock. If you're familiar with the meridians in the body, they each have a certain approximate time period where they are working at their highest capacity- the body meridian clock. Things not running smoothly in a certain meridian can cause you to awaken, or if it's a time of day when you're normally awake, you might not feel well, or be less energetic.
Meridians correspond not only to certain organs, but to emotions as well. Keeping your emotions in harmony can help the corresponding organs to recover from stress, illness or disease. If you are consistently waking up around the same time frame, it might be worthwhile to look at emotional well being as well as your physical health in order to head off some future problems.
From 11pm to 1am
Your gallbladder meridian is up. This is when your gallbladder dumps into your duodenum, and you really need to be asleep for that. The corresponding emotions for the gall bladder meridian are resentment, a need for justice, and wouldn't you know it, the emotion galled. It also relates to our decision making, which may be a good reason we can't get to sleep when we're trying to come to a conclusion on an issue. Potential flower essences are Anger Management, and Peace.
From 1-3am
Your liver meridian is on duty. If you're waking up often during this time, you might consider a liver cleanse to see if that helps, or look at whether anger is getting to you in some way. Frustration, irrationality and trouble forgiving are all clues. Since the liver is a processor of toxins, you might also ask yourself if you are in any toxic relationships or environments (physical emotional or spiritual). Other symptoms of imbalances might be anemia, chronic fatigue and headaches. Potentially helpful flower essences are Anger Management, Menoblend, Peace and Yarrow Shield.
3-5am
Your lung meridian's time to work. This is emotionally associated with grief, loneliness, sadness, disappointment, shame, anguish, and sorrow. Right now, we're dealing with hazardous levels of smoke, which I plan to do a respiratory cleanse when the air clears, but if you don't have a logical physical reason like I do, you might search out your emotions. Good Grief flower essence might be helpful.
5-7am
Your large intestine. An imbalance here can be accompanied by feelings of perfectionism, guilt, regret, rigid thinking and trouble letting go of the past. Good essences might be Ignite, Peak Performance, and Tomorrow.
Note: there is more physically involved in a meridian than just the organ it's named after. If you wake up from 12-2 do not automatically assume something is wrong with your liver.
If you keep a dream journal, and I believe you should, keep a record of your waking times with each dream. Record your dominate emotion as well. This will give you additional insight. Now, if you have a pattern of waking at the same time on the dot, then you might look at that number as a message that you need to get. For example, I'm in a 3:56 pattern. I could look at that as liver or lung meridian stuff, but since it's down to the minute, I really want to see if that number means anything to me. I can google if nothing is apparent, but in my case, this is a bible verse. I hope this gives you some additional insight as to why you aren't making it all the way through the night. This info is the tip of the iceberg.
